Fine Remodeling: Refining Our Renovation Process

Here at Fine Remodeling, our goal has always been to deliver high quality projects to our clients. To continue this, we want to refine the types of jobs we accept and focus on design-build projects. We hope this will improve client communication and leave less room for confusion, as well as help improve our efficiency with the work we deliver. By following a similar process with each job we take, it will be easier for us to optimize the work we do.

For more clarity, here are the steps we would follow for something like a kitchen remodel. Once a potential client reaches out to us through phone, email, or our website, we like to get a phone call scheduled. This is a free consultation between our client and our project manager, and is an opportunity to discuss the project and establish rough parameters. If all is well, we proceed to an on-site review, where our project manager will evaluate the site. During this review, we consider the current state of the area, and match it with what the client is looking for. At this point, we can attempt to adjust scope of work and provide some proper estimation.

If the project is reasonable, we can proceed to a design contract. For a design contract, we make a layout of the existing space and take measurements. These measurements are applied to a digital format, and will be compared with a digital layout of what we want the space to be. This will allow us to see what changes will be necessary, and contribute to determining our scope of work and price. During this time, we can create allowances for finish materials that we won’t be fabricating ourselves. We find the parameters for these materials and apply them to materials on the market to find a good match. With all this information gathered, we can then provide a cost for the project and a contract for the project as a whole, which will include payment terms, scope of work, layout, and material specs. After the contract is signed, we can move into the preparation phase of the project which includes establishing a timeline and finalizing finish material specs. Then, we can move into ordering these materials. Once this preparation work is complete, we can coordinate a start date and access to the site with our client(s), and then we will proceed with the construction phase.

Our goal is to continue moving forward with delivering quality projects. By refining the types of jobs we take, and being transparent with the steps we take to complete a project, we believe we will have an easier time achieving quality and in a more efficient manner. This should also allow us to achieve better results when communicating our process with clients.
